From Georgia to Arizona with dogs Jake and Buddy in tow we trek across the country where 2 Da Rescue organization founder Karen Franklin offers us help to safely adopt out Jake and Buddy. She also enlightens us with a rich perspective on the landscape of the homeless dog population in Arizona. Her organization helps save abused and abandoned dogs from Indian Reservations and from the border between Arizona and Mexico as well as from Arizona’s overcrowded city shelters. Helping dogs from remote areas also means helping the people who have no access to veterinary care and sometimes have no food for their own children. These circumstances often leave dogs at the bottom of the totem pole. We learn how helping to rescue dogs is a step toward helping the humans behind the dog. Collaboration is the key ingredient to seeing true change in the homeless dog population of the United States and thanks to Karen Franklin, we encounter a surprise visitor who makes this whole journey worth the effort.
